Rays trade Abreu to Indians for Meloan

The Rays traded reliever Winston Abreu to Cleveland today for reliever John Meloan.

Meloan will join Triple-A Durham. He had a 5.52 ERA in 25 games with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers this year. Meloan, with the Los Angeles Dodgers until a July 2008 trade, played in the Southern League in 2007 (and went by Jon). He has made seven career major-league appearances.

Abreu, designated for assignment June 27, appeared in two games with the Rays and was the team's minor-league pitcher of the month for May. He was 10-for-10 on saves and had a 1.41 ERA in 23 appearances with the Bulls.

The Biscuits, as of the moment, haven't been affected by the trade.
