Giants snap up Troy's Walls in 19th round

Troy pitcher Jason Walls was a 19th-round pick of the San Francisco Giants. Walls is from Valley and went to Southern Union Community College.

The Rays also came into the state in the 19th round, taking Auburn pitcher Scott Shuman.

In the 24th round, the Nationals hooked Dustin Crane, a Gaylesville native now at Snead State Community College.

Troy had another pitcher taken in the 26th round, Chris Sorce by the Seattle Mariners. Shelton State Community College's Blake Mechaw, a left-handed pitcher from Cullman, also went in the 26th round to the Orioles.

Chattahoochee Valley had a second player drafted in the 28th round. Right-handed pitcher Nick Sarianides went to the Cleveland Indians.
