It should be an interesting few days around the Tampa Bay clubhouse with Jeff Niemann and Reid Brignac sticking up for their favorite college baseball teams.
Niemann's Rice Owls and Brignac's beloved LSU Tigers will play in an NCAA super regional that starts Friday in Baton Rouge, La. Rice beat Kansas State 13-4 tonight to win its regional. LSU wrapped up its berth Sunday.
Niemann played for Rice, won a national championship in 2003 and has a fixed attitude toward the Southeastern Conference, of which LSU is a member. Brignac had signed with LSU before turning pro and still has a fervent allegience to the Tigers.
"The SEC is overrated," Niemann has said repeatedly.
By the way, LSU eliminated Rice from the College World Series last year.
