Montoyo leaves Bulls for son’s heart surgery

Former Biscuits manager Charlie Montoyo will be away from Triple-A Durham for the next couple of weeks for his infant son’s latest surgery.

Alex Montoyo is scheduled to have open-heart surgery July 2 at the UCLA Medical Center. Charlie managed the Bulls on Friday and is scheduled to fly home to Arizona on Saturday.

Charlie has been picked to coach in the All-Star Futures Game on July 12 in St. Louis. He’ll go only if Alex is doing well.

Alex was born in October 2007 with a heart defect and spent his first five months in hospitals in Tucson, Phoenix and Los Angeles.
