Smokies manager Ryne Sandberg reviewed his Hall of Fame career today and examined his performance against Biscuits pitching coaches, present and past.
Sandberg faced both current Biscuits coach Neil Allen and his predecessor, Xavier Hernandez, during his 16 years in the majors.
Against Allen: 2-for-13, three walks, no extra-base hits.
"He had a good overhand fastball and a real good curve. I do remember that, but it was a long time ago. He was competitive and he was tough."
Against Hernandez: 3-for-14, two home runs, Nos. 148 (May 27, 1990) and 209 (May 6, 1992) of Sandberg's career, no hit batsmen.
"I remember hitting a home run or two at the Astrodome off him. He was a pretty good reliever."
