Thursday: Biscuits 5, Mudcats 3 -- Gardner hits milestone

Biscuits manager Billy Gardner reached a milestone with Montgomery's 5-3 win over the Carolina Mudcats on Thursday.

It was Gardner's 300th win with the Biscuits and makes him the winningest manager in Montgomery's professional history. Gardner is 300-284 and in his fifth season with the Biscuits. He passes Frank Carswell as Montgomery's winningest manager. Carswell was 299-230 in four seasons leading the Montgomery Rebels (1959, 1967-69).

Nevin Ashley’s controversial two-run homer in the sixth put the Biscuits ahead 4-3. Home plate umpire A.J. Johnson initially ruled that Ashley’s blast was foul, but Gardner asked Johnson to confer with his umpiring crew. Johnson changed his call and soon ejected Carolina manager David Bell.
