The Rays have signed their first-round draft pick, Clemson third baseman Richie Shaffer. Shaffer will report to short-season Class A Hudson Valley. Today is the signing deadline, and the Rays have signed 37 of their 40 picks, including the first 28.
Shaffer signed for $1,712,500, according to Baseball America, which is a hair below the $1,725,000 slot.
