Outfielder Mikie Mahtook has been promoted from high-Class A Charlotte to the Biscuits.
Mahtook, a first-round draft pick in 2011 out of LSU, was hitting .290 for the Stone Crabs.
Mahtook was the 31st overall pick last year and signed just before the mid-August deadline. The Rays thought enough of him to send him to the Arizona Fall League, where he was impressive. Mahtook hit .338 with three home runs 14 RBIs and five stolen bases in 18 games.
The 22-year-old was the No. 10 prospect in the Tampa Bay organization before the season. As a freshman at LSU in 2009, he became a starter halfway through the season and helped lead the Tigers to a national championship.
Mahtook, who was a midseason All-Star in the pitcher-friendly Florida State League, had five home runs, 19 steals, 37 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He had a .358 on-base percentage and was slugging .419.
