Bulls' Martin reigns in June BCS/RPI

J.D. Martin

Durham right-hander J.D. Martin was the June BCS/RPI champion.

Martin was 2-2 with a 2.51 ERA and was 4-of-5 on quality starts in the month of June. This year, he's 9-4 with a 3.22 ERA. Martin leads all Tampa Bay minor leaguers in wins.

Martin scored 18 points and finished two ahead of Bowling Green infielder Tommy Coyle. Coyle had a .329 average with 20 RBIs and 15 runs scored in 22 games. He had a 1.006 OPS, the most in the system by anyone who played more than 14 games.

Tommy Coyle
Coyle, who won the Biscuit Crumbs Standings/Rays Player Indicator race in April, has a sizable lead in the full-season race. His 47 points is 14 ahead of Durham pitcher Merrill Kelly.

The standings are derived from the daily Ranking the Rays. In the full-season division, it's five points for a first-place finish, four for second, etc. The short-season teams started only recently, so the first Little BCS rankings won't be released for another month.
