A.J. Morris threw six shutout innings and the Tennessee Smokies survived Montgomery's ninth-inning rally to take a 3-1 win over the Biscuits on Wednesday.
The Biscuits, down 3-0, scored and had the potential tying run on base with one out in the ninth.
Cameron Seitzer drew a leadoff walk and Todd Glaesmann doubled. After a Kyeong Kang strikeout, Riccio Torrez's broken-bat infield single scored Seitzer. Robby Price took a called strike three before Hector Guevara's game-ending groundout.
Morris (3-0) gave up six hits and one walk. John Andreoli singled home Matt Szczur in the third inning, while Christian Villanueva homered in the seventh and Justin Bour homered in the eighth.
The Biscuits had two runners on base with no outs in the sixth before a flyout and double play.
