Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, close to returning from an oblique injury, appears headed for a rehab stay with the Biscuits.
Longoria took batting practice before the Rays' game today at Toronto and told reporters afterward that he felt good. He also said he's likely headed to the Biscuits for a rehab stint that will start next weekend, the St. Petersburg Times reports.
"It went as good as it could go, no pain,'' Longoria said. "Huge step forward today.''
Montgomery opens a five-game home series with the Jacksonville Suns on Thursday. Longoria said he hopes to stay only two or three days, though the Rays are thinking longer.
Longoria, the Southern League's most valuable player for the Biscuits in 2007, is scheduled for another batting practice session Wednesday or Thursday in Minnesota, the Times reports, before his rehab.
