Michael Colla will make his Biscuits debut when he starts Monday against the Huntsville Stars, while Victor Mateo has been demoted to Montgomery's bullpen. The Biscuits will have to make a roster move before Colla's start.
Mateo is 2-6 with a 6.46 ERA in 12 starts this year. He's given up 71 hits and issued 30 walks in 61 1/3 innings. Mateo wasn't available before Saturday's game.
"He hasn't pitched up to his capabilities, for the most part, and the numbers say that," manager Billy Gardner said. "There are some things hopefully he can get right in the bullpen, locating his fastball and being aggressive in the zone.
"There are some things he knows he needs to get better at. Being in the bullpen hopefully helps him accomplish that."
